Introduction

When OZ V4.6 was released it provided a new feature of installing and running additional applications in RAM. Normally, applications are blown via special software to Eprom and Flash cards, then inserted into one of the external slots in order to be installed into the running Z88 computer.

This means that rather than taking up space on the application side of the Flash card with applications that are only occasionally used, the user may install and remove applications when required. RAM-based applications is also a considerable improvement for developers, making it much faster to install and test software.

They are normally supplied in a zipped format and need to be unzipped first on your desktop computer or using UnZip popdown (if this is installed on your Z88).

OZ V4.6 provides the feature of installing an application in Z88 RAM memory user space. This operation has been designed to be as easy as possible for the end user. It is performed from the INDEX with two commands.

Installation and removal via Index command and Filer

 Please note

  • When several application have been installed by one installation (eg. Unzip and ZipUp applications), removal is performed by highlighting the first application in INDEX.
  • When removing an active application, if an 'IN USE' error box is displayed, Kill the relative suspended activities and retry the removal again.

If this feature is used with the 512K/512K Flash/RAM card, this program may fail. 

The decoder in the standard flash/RAM card is not quite fast enough to switch between the flash and RAM for this operation.
