The following article describes how to get a virtual hard disk with Windows xp already on it. The advantage of using this method is that it

  • saves using the Windows CD disk
  • It includes Service Pack 3
  • and all the updates.

Even if you have a CD with a key, use this method and use your own key.

When it is extracted, copy it to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual hard disks directory. Then rename the file VirtualXP.VHD.

Select this option and follow the instructions given by the Wizard.

Specify Name and Location - Change name e.g. Windows xp Professional. Leave 'Store the virtual machine in a different location' Un-ticked.

Assign Memory 'Start up memory:' leave as default 512MB. Use Dynamic Memory for this virtual machine. Ticked.

Configure Networking Connection: Select the External one, the Ethernet Adapter.

Connect Virtual Hard Disk Select Use an existing virtual hard disk, Browse, and select the drive above.

Summary Check that the information is correct.

Press Finish.

This completes the building of the virtual hardware.Install Windows 8 Hyper-V
