The purpose of this section is to compare the original AMD 1M Flash chip chips with later versions.

Spansion are putting their 1M AMD Flash chips on End of Life EOL.

512K Flash 5v

The following devices have been available from 31/08/17

NOTE: Using these chips with the Z88.

Mechanically and electrically, these chips are the same as before. The software required to use them need to be updated.

Conclusion

  • There is no life left for the 1M Flash chips.
  • The 512K size was the most cost effective when the 64 sector versions were manufactured by two companies.
  • Microchip are now the only company left making 5v Flash.
  • 128K is not a lot cheaper than the 512K and is uneconomic to use.
