This section is for first-time users, to give them a taste of how easy it is to use the Z88 using the Rakewell Flash Card.

There are 4 sections.

Here is a picture of the This covers getting and installing a 512K/512K Flash/RAM card out of the packaging.

There are even instructions with it. Does anybody read these?

1. Open the Card Flap and push the card into Slot 1.

2. Leaving the Card Flap open (or open it again), press the reset switch a couple of times with an opened paperclip.

3. Shut the Card Flap

You should see the HARD RESET ... come up on the screen, if not

try moving the contrast knob one way and then the other

if that fails - go back to 2 and try again.

If it works you should see the INDEX screen.
Note that UK is displayed underneath the OZ symbol top right-hand corner of the screento the Z88 to getting a HARD RESET...

Use the cursor keys Image Removed to move to the next window, then the Image Removed five times until it is over the F /flash.txt filename.

Press Image Removed to select that file.
The following screen will be displayed. You can use the cursor keys to change the Save to: destination if desired, but :RAM.1/flash.txt is fine.

Press Image Removed to confirm this.

This screen shows the file was copied to :RAM.1 successfully. Press either Image Removed or Image Removed to resume as instructed.
The following screen is displayed.

As Flashstore is a Popdown, pressing Image Removed exits the application and (in this case) returns to the INDEX.

Using Pipedream

Let's have a look at the file in Pipedream by selecting Image RemovedP

Select File Load either
pressing the Image Removed key 4 times to display the FILES menu, then selecting it with the Image Removed key

Using the Filer with Pipedream

To save typing in the file name, the Filer may be used to select this. Select the Filer Image RemovedF

Move the cursor to the right using Image Removed key.

Select that file by pressing the Image Removed key.

Note that a mark to the left of the file name indicating that this file has been selected.
Press the Image Removed key to return to Pipedream.
Note that the :RAM.1/flash.txt has been filled in.

This text file is a 'Plain Text' file so before the file is loaded the 'Load as plain text' needs to changed to 'Yes.'
Move the cursor down 3 lines Image Removedand use the 'Y' key to change it.

Finally use the Image Removed key to start loading in the file.
The following screen is displayed showing the start of the file.

Note the page map is shown on the right-hand side with a small vertical bar (just next to the OZ symbol).
This bar shows you which part of the page is being viewed. In this case it is the top 6 lines.
By pressing Image RemovedImage Removed you can go straight to the end of the file.

If this has worked for you, this is an excellent test for the RAM as it has been tested at both saving a file to it as well as it being used in the Pipedream application.

When you have finished with this file it is a good idea to kill this activity to release the memory it is using.
Pressing the Image Removed key will display the following:-

Move the cursor to the right Image Removed to select the desired suspended activity to kill, then press Image RemovedKILL

Note that the Image RemovedKILL menu command cannot be used e.g. Image Removed moving the cursor across and then the Image Removed key

This is done to ensure that you really wanted to KILL the suspended application.

Using Unzip

 

There are additional applications supplied on the Rakewell flash card that are not in OZ. One of these is Unzip.
To demonstrate this Fetch Romcombiner.zip from the flash card.

Use the technique using the Filer (as shown above) to select the correct filename.

Use the Image Removed key to start unzipping.
Files may be skipped by selecting the 'n' function

All done. Select Image RemovedQ to Quit this popdown. Press Image Removed to see all the commands.

Pressing Image Removed twice here will  catalogue them and give you the file sizes.

 Get files that are already to use from the Flash Card to RAM so they can be used with other applications.
