GQ-4X - Am29F080 1M Flash - No Address Extender

Am29F080 1M Flash

General Description

The Am29F080 is an 8 Mbit, 5.0 Volt-only Flash memory organized as 1 Megabyte of 8 bits. The 1 Mbyte data is divided into 16 sectors of 64 Kbytes for flexible erase capability. The 8 bits of data will appear on DQ0–DQ7. The Am29F080 is offered in a 40-pin TSOP, 44-pin PSOP package. This device is designed to be programmed in-system with the standard system 5.0 volt V CC supply. 12.0 volt V PP is not required for program or erase operations. The device can also be reprogrammed in standard EPROM programmers.

This is a 'proof of concept,' to show that a 1M Flash Card may be programmed with 32 pin Programmers. This is done in two stages.

  • The top half - which is the same as the 512K Flash card
  • The bottom half.

It works.

The Top Half

  • Plug in the Z88 Card into the Z88 Extender card
  • Unplug the Header connector on the EPROM Programmer. This is NOT USED in this example.
  • Set the switch position to the Right.
  • Plug in the Z88 Extender card into the programmer's ZIF socket.

The Z88 Memory card is used just to get the correct spacing of the two cards but is removed before power is applied to the programmer.

Start up the program

  • Remove the Z88 Card
  • Connect the USB cable to the EPROM programmer
  • Connect to the PC and
  • Initialise the EPROM Programmer

Select the chip

The Am29F040 512K Flash DIL chip even though this is the Am29F080.

Now plug in the Z88 Card.

Check the ID

Error Message

If the ID check is implemented, when

  • Read
  • Blank Check
  • Write and
  • Verify

the following error message will be displayed. Select Yes to continue in all cases.

The Bottom Half

  • Plug in the Z88 Card into the Z88 Extender card
  • Set the switch position to the Centre.
  • Plug in the Z88 Extender card into the programmer's ZIF socket.

Again the above error messages will be displayed including ID Check.

Refer to the manual on how to do all the other functions on this EPROM Programmer.
